The Year We Disappeared Audio Book

The Year We Disappeared by Cylin and John Busby is a riveting memoir co-written by a daughter and her father. Cylin’s portion of the audio book version of the novel was recorded right here at Double R Studios and available now from Full Cast Audio! The recording was directed by Laurel van der Linde and engineered by Andrew Meisner.

From the publisher:year-we-disappeared

A peaceful summer night is shattered by gunfire as an unseen assailant tries to murder police officer John Busby. Though horribly wounded, Busby survives. But the perpetrator remains at large, meaning neither Busby, nor his wife, nor their three children are safe.

In separate chapters John and his daughter, Cylin, who was nine at the time, recount the story of that year. John writes graphically, and movingly, of his wounds, his pain, his multiple surgeries, and his rage. Cylin tells their story from a child’s point of view, sharing vivid memories of confusion, loss of friends, and the struggle to build a new life.

Together, father and daughter craft an unforgettable picture of fear, of police corruption, and of a malignant thug who no one dares to cross. Yet their story is also one of redemption and recovery, and ultimately of hope and healing.

Dead Island Riptide Sees North American Release

Today marks the release date of one of our biggest projects of last year – Dead Island Riptide!

Dead Island Riptide is the sequel to the popular Dead Island, and it is a open world first person brawler that allows to player to traverse a beautiful island paradise while hacking, slashing, gunning down, and blowing up all manner of deadly and disgusting zombies. It was developed by Techland and published by Deep Silver, and it features a tremendous amount of voice-over work by some of the industries best talents. It was recorded in the Double R Studios between November 2012 and February 2013. The game was written by our own Haris Orkin, who also directed most of the voice acting, along with help form the amazing Amanda Wyatt. The dialogue was all recorded by our Chief Audio Engineer, Andrew Meisner, who also sound designed and mixed all of the co0llectable recordings found inside the game.

The game features stunning voice acting from Phil LaMarr  (Pulp Fiction, Family Guy, Futurama, Samurai Jack), David Kaye (Ratchet & Clank series, Ben 10, Regular Show), Kim Mai Guest (Metal Gear Solid series, TMNT), Adam Croasdall (Bondjamesbond, EastEnders), Patricia Belcher (Good Luck Charlie, Bones), Keone Young (Deadwood, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Men In Black 3, Crank), Marcella-Lentz Pope (Boardwalk Empire, Superbad, The Social Network), Andy McPhee (Sons of Anarchy, Neighbours, Home and Away), and a whole slew of others.

It can always be a challenge taking on a project of this scale, especially in video games where everything is non-linear and there are so many different outcomes in a gargantuan but it’s extremely rewarding to get to work with so many talented actors, and when you finally get to see the end result of all your hard work – it’s just sublime.
